Fair weather, wide open spaces, and of course, truckloads of tasty single select oysters, helped make the 13th annual Downs Byrd Memorial Oyster Roast a major success.
The event, held February 2 at Miler Country Club, is one of two major fundraisers for the Frances R. Willis SPCA and Animal Shelter. This year, more than 500 animal loving, oyster slurping revelers turned out at Miler Country Club Feb. 2 for the much-looked-forward-to annual event, which in addition to the oysters, featured a silent auction, entertainment from DJ Wendell, hot dogs and sides, and homemade desserts compliments of the Junior Service League of Summerville.
Courtney Wilson, Past President of the Frances R. Willis Board of Directors, said she was very pleased with the event and expressed her deep gratitude to everyone involved, including board members, staff, volunteers, and of course, the public.
“Everyone went above and beyond to make this the best Oyster Roast ever,” Wilson said. “I went out to the Pavilion and talked to all the guests and was told this year’s event was the best one ever. Huge compliments were expressed about the oysters being the best they have ever eaten.”
