The Church of Saint John the Beloved (28 Sumter Ave, downtown Summerville) is pleased to present organist, Scott Turkington in recital as part of the 2012-13 St. John the Beloved Music and Arts Series on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.
Scott Turkington is the organist and choirmaster of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston and a leading expert on Gregorian chant and classical polyphony. Turkington is in demand as a lecturer and recitalist. From Minneapolis, Turkington was educated at the University of Minnesota, then Boston Conservatory of Music, and The Catholic University of America.
He has performed recitals extensively throughout the Northeast and made his debut at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. He has also conducted his choir in a performance for Pope John Paul II at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
This special concert is sponsored by the organ-builders, Peragallo Pipe Organ Company of Patterson, NJ and series donors. The program will feature chant-based masterworks and French fireworks on the Peragallo Pipe Organ - Opus 591 built in 1997 for St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. This program is given as a gift to the community through the Music and Art Series.
