Millhouse legacy continues

  • Thursday, February 14, 2013

It must be in the genes.
Tillman U. Millhouse Jr. and his late wife Emily proudly witnessed all four of their children land college athletic scholarships and now four of their seven grandkids have done the same.
On Feb. 6, Millhouse made the trip from his Summerville home to Columbia, where he was joined by several family members at Irmo High School as his grandson, Ronald Millhouse Jr., signed to play football for Holy Cross College. In the grandson, the Crusaders are getting an all-region cornerback who is an honor student and received the Coaches Award from the Irmo High School football program after he helped the Yellow Jackets earn a 2012 region championship. He also runs track for Irmo.
In his senior season, he recorded 18 tackles, three interceptions and five pass breakups. As a junior, he totaled 37 tackles, two interceptions, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
Signing celebrations have become routine for the proud grandfather. His son Ronald played football at the University of South Carolina. His son Tillman was recruited as a football player and a baseball player and ended up playing baseball at Jacksonville State. His daughters Deborah and Sharon both ran track for Jacksonville State.
Ronald Jr. is not only following in their footsteps, but the footsteps of his cousins. Tillman IV played football at The Citadel and S.C. State. Branden Millhouse played baseball at USC Upstate and USC Aiken. Kendall Millhouse ran track at Clemson University.
As for the three grandchildren who have not landed a college scholarship, two have chosen an academic path and the other is too young to be concerned with such things. Alex Berry enrolled in a technical college after graduating from high school and Kristen Singleton is an honor student at James Island High School. Morgan Emily Millhouse attends Baker Place Elementary School in Georgia. Her grandfather says she has great basketball and softball skills and is an honor student.
