After a decade and a half in family medicine, Dr. Mark Meiler became one of the first doctors to specialize in geriatrics, starting in the late 1980s. “We are really primary care physicians for older people, somewhat akin to a pediatrician for children, in that we focus on a particular age group,” he says. While Dr. Meiler joined Trident Senior Health in 2007, several patients from his former practice in Aiken travel to North Charleston so they can continue to see him, and he has developed a popular local following as well. Dr. Meiler has special training in treating dementia, strokes, diabetes, hypertension and congestive heart failure in older patients, and he helps coordinate care and medicines for those who see other sub-specialists. He is glad to take extra time to talk to patients during office visits, and as someone with an avid interest in history, he enjoys hearing their life stories. “I've been involved with geriatrics for around 25 years, and I have always liked working with older patients.” - Mark Meiler, MD Medical School: Creighton University School of Medicine Residency: C.S.
