A 37-year-old Ridgeville man is behind bars, facing multiple charges in connection with the shooting death of his step-grandfather.
According to a Feb. 26 press release, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division arrested Sonny Ray Jones Jr., 37, of Ridgeville, and charged him with murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the Feb. 1 shooting death of 64-year-old Jimmy Edwards of Ridgeville.
Jones is the step grandson of the victim and resided in the same residence.
According to the initial DCSO incident report, officers responded to a call at a residence at 374 Ridge Road around 11:15 p.m. Feb. 1 in reference to a man shot. Officers spoke to the complainant, who said he had found his wife’s father in the back yard shot in the back of the head.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the victim as Edwards and confirmed via autopsy that Edwards had been shot three times in the back of the head and the manner of death was homicide.
Jones is currently in the Dorchester County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
The investigation continues.
