I am sure that many banks give money to non-profit organizations and I am also sure that the non-profits receiving the money are very grateful.
But giving a non-profit a home when they have lost theirs is about the most wonderful thing someone can do. That is just what the First Citizens Bank on South Main Street in Summerville has done; given us a home.
I am the Project Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Carolina Lowcountry American Red Cross. Our mission is to help people 55 years of age and older find meaningful volunteer opportunities in their community.
We had been working out of a service center for many years, but sadly it had to close its doors in December. That left the RSVP program needing space from which to work. It is our great fortune that First Citizens had a nice office that was offered to us and as of today, Feb. 20, we begin to move into the space.
We want to thank First Citizens Bank for their generosity and community spirit for this gift. This allows us to continue our mission to work hard in helping Dorchester County with their volunteer needs. Senior citizens have a wealth of knowledge, experience and commitment they are willing to share. Our job is to help them share it.
