Bond has been denied for three people charged in connection with a Feb. 1 homicide in Ridgeville, according to Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office officials.
DCSO investigators arrested 37-year-old Sonny Ray Jones Jr. Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, and charged him with murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the Feb. 1 shooting death of 64-year-old Jimmy Edwards of Ridgeville.
Tuesday afternoon, DCSO investigators arrested Mary Todd Grooms, 54, and Endsley P. Grooms, 67, in connection with the same case. Both are charged with murder.
Mary Todd Grooms is the victim’s stepdaughter and Endsley Grooms is her husband.
All three suspects lived in the same residence as the victim. Jones is Mary Todd Grooms’ son and the step grandson of the victim.
According to a DCSO incident report, officers responded to a call at a residence at 374 Ridge Road around 11:15 p.m. Feb. 1 in reference to a man shot. Officers spoke to the complainant, who said he had found his wife’s father in the back yard shot in the back of the head.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the victim as Edwards and confirmed via autopsy that Edwards had been shot three times in the back of the head and the manner of death was homicide.
All three suspects are housed in the Dorchester County Detention Center.
The investigation continues.
