WHAIES receives arts grant Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School has been awarded a $5250 grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission for the 2013 fiscal year. The supportwill allow the organization to purchase fine arts curricula, provide teacher trainings, and supply arts materials for teacher and student use.

Local Robotics Team 3489 honored at Palmetto Regional for Gracious Professionalism
Dorchester District 2’s FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 3489, Category 5, earned a victory of a different sort Saturday at the Palmetto Regional competition in Myrtle Beach, SC. This robotics team from Summerville and Ashley Ridge High Schools accepted an award from FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) for their “sportsman’s like conduct” amongst 65 teams from 12 states. Judges recognized them with the FIRST Regional Gracious Professionalism Award which celebrates outstanding sportsmanship and continuous Gracious Professionalism® in the heat of competition, both on and off the playing field. Although their robot struggled on the field, the Team kept the spirit of competition alive assisting other teams throughout the weekend with their robots including sharing tools and positive attitudes. Category 5’s robot, Hugo, will be put to the test of Ultimate Ascent once more at the Peachtree Regional in Duluth, GA on March 14-16th.
