Singers of Summerville to Bring a Taste of Broadway

  • Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Provided Singers of Summerville will perform the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at their March 23 concert.

The music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is simply unbeatable for hummable tunes, and the Singers of Summerville spring concert will be absolutely full of them. On Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 PM, the Singers will present “Absolutely Andrew!” at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Avenue in Summerville. Tickets for the evening are ten dollars for adults, five for students, and will be available at the door.
The Singers’ performance will feature Broadway medleys from Lloyd Webber’s most celebrated musicals, including the hauntingly romantic “Phantom of the Opera,” the wildly entertaining “Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and the intriguingly avant-garde “Cats.”
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s illustrious career has spanned over forty years, and has garnered tremendous critical acclaim, including Tonys, Oscars and Grammys. He is widely considered the most successful composer of our time. The Singers will showcase the broad range of styles characteristic of Lloyd Webber’s work, from classical to rock, pop, Latin and jazz.
Under the direction of Valerie Bullock, Professor and Chair of the Horton School of Music Charleston University, the Singers of Summerville have earned a growing reputation for bringing together experienced local musicians with a passion for the best in choral music. The group has performed at numerous venues, including the annual Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston.
