The bitter cold, the biting wind, and the incessant rain didn’t seem so bad as the Breath of Spring Flower Show officially heralded the arrival of a new season at Cypress Gardens in Berkeley County.
The show, held the first weekend in March, was sponsored by the Belle Isle Garden Club, the Camellia Garden Club of Greater Charleston, the Garden Club of Otranto, and the Town and Village Garden Club.
“The warm weather we experienced in January presented a challenge for this year’s floral designs,” said flower show chairman Michael Pound, “But we still had a significant number of entries. Anything more than 200 entries is considered a good show.”
The show, in its seventh year, was entitled “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” and featured 267 entries over three categories, with 218 horticultural entries, 48 flower design entries and three educational exhibits.
