The Summerville High School girls' soccer team is off to a strong start this season.
On Friday, the Lady Green Wave defeated Goose Creek 6-2 to improve its regular season record to 5-3. Summerville has a 1-1 mark in region play with a win over Colleton County and a loss to Beaufort.
The team has a new coach, Brian DeBolt, but he has a lot of experienced players to work with as the Wave returned nine varsity lettermen this season: Tinslee Dilday, Madison Reeves, Hannah Potter, Taylor Edwards, Cyarah Wilson, Rachel Thurmes, Maggie Mayeaux, Jenny Matusik and Brianna Miner. Also on the squad are Madison Turner, Arianna Brown, Danielle Lodge, Gabrielle Colon, Summer Lundguist, Ashley McVicker, Emaleigh Tuggle and Anna Marie Henriquez.
The Summerville boys defeated Coffee County from Georgia 3-2 Friday to improve to 5-3-1 on the year. David Kennedy led the charge, scoring two Summerville goals.
The Summerville boys host Fort Dorchester Thursday while the Summerville girls travel to Fort Dorchester.
The Patriot boys improved to 5-4, 2-1 with a 5-0 victory over Colleton County Friday. Trevour Johnson led the charge, scoring two Fort goals.
