Ben, a giant African Sulcata Tortoise, enjoys a gnosh of grass along South Main Street and Luden Drive. His owner, Randy Gallagher of Sunset Beach, N.C., had Ben and seven other Sulcatas out for an impromptu showing Tuesday afternoon. Gallagher runs a private rescue for Sulcatas and other such exotic animals from the pet trade, and frequently takes them on the road to show them off, educate the public, allow children up close and personal encounters, and receive donations to help feed and care for them.
