Pedestrian hit and killed by train in Summerville committed suicide

A pedestrian struck and killed by a train in Summerville, near the Kapstone Paper Plant, committed suicide according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet. The victim is 54-year-old Joyce Lillian Brook of Duggins Lane in Summerville, according to Nisbet. The victim lay down on the tracks until a train came along and hit her, killing her instantly. The accident occurred between Cypress Street and S. Maple Street, along West Doty Ave. around 12:30 p.m. An autopsy is planned for Wednesday to determine cause of death. The reason for the suicide is unclear at this time, Nisbet said. No other information was immediately available. Continue to check this website for further updates as they become available.
