Green Wave grounds Eagles in overtime
The Green Wave boys’ soccer team earned a big win on the road Friday.
Summerville earned a 2-1 victory over region foe Beaufort in overtime to improve to 7-5-1 on the season with a 4-2 mark in region 8-AAAA. The Eagles fell to 8-5 with a 4-3 mark in the region.
Madison Socha scored a goal for Summerville, but David Seguine also hit one for Beaufort so regulation ended in a 1-all tie. Then Chris Miller found the net in overtime with an assist from Mitchell Cook to put the Wave on top.
“Beaufort is always a tough game,” Summerville coach Jason Rasner said. “The boys battled hard and kept their composure very well. We could have possessed the ball a little better, but we are still hampered by injuries. Slowly, we are getting back. We had some players in new positions that stepped up and did very well.”
Keeper Ashton Tanner was among the Summerville players hurt, but junior midfielder Davis Wiggins filled in and only let the sole goal slip by.
“The rest of the season is filled with tough region games and a battle with Stratford – who we could see in the playoffs,” Rasner said. “We are playing well and hope to finish the season off strong.”
Summerville played one of its two remaining games with Bluffton Tuesday after press time. The Wave will now face three straight road games against Fort Dorchester, Bluffton and Stratford before closing its regular season by hosting Ashley Ridge May 2.
