The Carolina Scholar is the University's most prestigious award for South Carolinians. This year, more than 700 applicants sought the scholarship.† Pahl is the only Summerville finalist, and one of only five selected from the Lowcountry. Applicants were reviewed based on achievement, talent and leadership potential. As a Carolina Scholar, Pahl is guaranteed a renewable scholarship of $10,000, preferred parking and housing privileges and a free laptop computer.† Since its inception in 1969, over 700 students have earned the Carolina Scholar designation.

The Palmetto Fellow scholarship recognizes the state’s most academically talented seniors and encourages them to attend school in the state.† Recipients must score at least a 1200 on the SAT, earn a cumulative 3.5 GPA and rank in the top six percent of their class.† The Palmetto Fellow is a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 annually.

Pahl has had an exceptional career at Pinewood, maintaining more than a 5.0 GPR while taking eight Advanced Placement classes, including one in each discipline.† He scored a 34 on the ACT exam, earning a perfect score in reading, and a near perfect score in both Math and English.

Earlier this year, Pahl was awarded a S.C. Chamber of Commerce Business Week Scholarship.† He was a member of Pinewood’s Math Team and State Championship Quiz Bowl Team, and captain of the school’s Model UN Team, which recently won the Winthrop Cup at the Model UN Competition at Winthrop University.† He is an avid fencer and regular volunteer at the Summerville Dorchester Museum.

Pahl will attend the Honors College and Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He is one of twenty students accepted for the school’s† International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) Program.† As part of this program, he will spend his sophomore and senior years attending the University of Hong Kong.

Pinewood Preparatory School is an independent, college preparatory school located in Summerville, S.C., dedicated to giving students in three-year-old preschool through 12th grade a foundation for success in all aspects of life. Pinewood Senior Austin Pahl has been named a Carolina Scholar and a Palmetto Fellow at the University of South Carolina Honors College.
