American Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene of a fire, which occurred late Monday night, and provided assistance to a Summerville family of three adults. The Summerville Fire Department responded to the blaze, which destroyed the family’s home.
The Red Cross provided the fire victims with funds to replace food and clothing lost in the fire, short term shelter, comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, toys, medications and referrals to partner agencies to assist with the family’s long-term recovery.
The American Red Cross, Carolina Lowcountry Chapter has assisted 898 individuals affected by disasters, including home fires, in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties, since July 1 of last year.
