Provided -- Pinewood’s award-winning Honors Play Production Class will present “The Election,” a comedy by Don Zolidis, on April 27 and 28 at the Freedom Hall Stage on the Pinewood Prep campus. --

Pinewood Preparatory School’s award-winning Honors Play Production Class will present its spring production, “The Election,” on Apr. 27 at 7 p.m. and Apr. 28 at 3 p.m.
Pinewood’s drama troupe recently received both state and national accolades.  They returned from the Palmetto Dramatic Association and International Thespian Society Festival last month, where they earned top ratings in performance and make-up design.  Thirteen Pinewood students are advancing to the national competition in Lincoln, Neb. in May.  At the festival, Pinewood seniors Corey Ryan and Ryan Ball were each awarded a Thespian Scholarship from the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), a highly competitive college scholarship awarded to only five students nationally each year.
“The Election,” written by Don Zolidis, is an acclaimed comedy that takes a humorous look at the world of politics.  After an embattled student body president resigns in disgrace, candidate Mark Davenport figures he will cruise to victory over his only opponent, nerdy Christy Martin, in the special election. But when a mysterious ‘Super PAC’ gives Martin an unlimited budget, things start to get ugly. Davenport must face certain annihilation, or accept the services of a slick professional campaign manager with questionable ethics and a million-dollar ‘Super PAC’ of his own. “The Election,” is a hilarious and timely satire on contemporary politics.
The performances are open to the public, and will be held at Pinewood Preparatory School’s Freedom Hall, located at 1114 Orangeburg Rd. in Summerville.  General admission is $5.  For information, contact Shannon Horn at shorn@pinewoodprep.com or 843-376-0142.
