Provided/Helen Beacham -- ‘Up’ is a watercolor with pen & ink, 4" x 6" by Helen K. Beacham. Beacham painted ‘Up’ as one of her 30 painting in the 30-day challenge. --

Summerville artist, Helen K. Beacham, recently surfaced again, after painting 30 paintings in 30 days.  She was one of 220 worldwide artists who committed to the challenge, and after the 30 days were over, she was one of about 180 hearty souls who were still hanging in there.
Because Beacham normally invests many hours, and days, into each of her paintings, she had to adapt her methods and her way of thinking to stay afloat. What was the best part about it all?  Helen explains, “I found myself choosing the smaller 4”x6” format due to the daily time constraints…and a pleasant side effect of doing that was the freedom I felt in choosing my subject for each day. A set of wooden stairs? A shelf full of cheeses? A lime green chair? All became fair game.” An important part of the challenge was not only to complete the painting, but to post each one daily on her personal blog and write about it. She says, “I found myself going to bed at night, already thinking about tomorrow’s painting! Luckily, I had the blessing from my family when I told them I was going incognito till it was over!”
Beacham‘s work is represented by Lowcountry Artists Gallery in Charleston where she, and much of her 30-day collection, will be featured during the month of May. For the first time ever, Helen will also be displaying & selling her art at this year’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Marion Square from May 24 through June 8. Later this year, Helen is taking a group of artists to Venice, Italy for an 8-day painting workshop (Oct 12-20).
