Four individuals, reportedly involved in a home invasion Wednesday morning, are being sought by police.
Around 10:30 a.m., Summerville Police responded to 100 Myrtle Place for a burglary in progress. While in route, officers were informed a person had been shot, according to Captain Jon Rogers.
The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment, although it is unclear where the person was shot.
Witness statements are inconsistent, said Rogers at the scene, but indicate that between two and four masked men entered the home. Suspects were described as males wearing all black clothing with some wearing camouflage clothing.
Alston Middle School went into an "instructional lockdown" Wednesday for an hour and a half as a precaution at the request of police, said Pat Raynor, DD2 spokeswoman. This means classes continued but no one went outside.
According to Rogers, K-9 officers attempted to track the suspects to no avail, suggesting they left the area in a vehicle.
Children on a school bus were walked to their homes as police cleared the scene.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office also responded backing up Summerville Police Department.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Summerville Police Department at 851-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
