Swamp Fox golfers claim region championship

Ashley Ridge claimed its first Region 8-AAAA golf championship by shooting team rounds of 299 and 303 for a team total of 602 Monday at Legend Oaks.
Fort Dorchester was the runner-up at the 2013 region championship match with rounds of 305 and 306 for a team total of 611. Bluffton (623) and Summerville (625) finished third and fourth and both will advance to the Lower State Championship.
The Swamp Foxes were led by Austin Zoller and Zak Butt. Zoller shot rounds of 70 and 73 while Butt shot rounds of 75 and 69 to help lead the team and also earn All-Region honors. Fort Dorchester was led by RJ Keur who shot rounds of 68 and 73 to also claim All-Region honors. Summerville’s Christian Woods fired two rounds of 75 to make the All-Region Team as well.
The overall individual winner of the 36-hole event was Beaufort’s Josh Fickes who shot two rounds of 69. The Lower State match is scheduled for May 6 at Sunset Country Club.
