Athletes qualify for state championships

Roger Lee/Journal Scene -- Summerville junior Davon Anderson had the top qualifying time in both the 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash at the 2013 Class AAAA state qualifying track and field meet. --

All three Dorchester Two schools will send multiple athletes to the South Carolina Class AAAA track and field championships this weekend at Spring Valley High School.
Athletes from across the state met in Columbia last weekend during the 4-A state qualifier in hopes of earning a Top 8 finish there to advance to the state championships. The Summerville boys qualified in five events while Fort Dorchester qualified in four and Ashley Ridge qualified in three. On the girls’ side, Fort Dorchester qualified in four events while Summerville and Ashley Ridge qualified in one.
Summerville’s Davon Anderson had the top qualifying time in two events, placing first in the 100-meter dash with an 11.11 time and first in the 110 hurdles with a 14.33 time.
Summerville’s Andrew Scholz placed third in the pole vault. Loyless Clark placed sixth in the discus and Zack Bailey placed eighth in the shot put.
Fort Dorchester’s Kenny Fenton-Griffith also qualified in two events, placing second in the 200 with a 22.29 time and eighth in the 100 with an 11.28 time.
Patriot pole vaulter Joseph Hutchinson placed eighth in his event. The Fort 4x800 relay team of Tanner Ziliack, Mustapha Elgazar, Stephen Gillette and Alexander Armstrong placed seventh.
Ashley Ridge had a pair of Top 5 finishes in the field events as Shamon Thomas placed fourth in the shot put with a 49-09 mark and Malik Graham placed fourth in the discus with a 161-03.50 mark.
Swamp Fox runner Devon Duncan also qualified in the 800 with a seventh-place finish.
Fort Dorchester’s Jasmine Quinn had the top qualifying result in four events. She won the 100 with a 12.22 time, the 200 with a 24.91 time, the 100 hurdles with a 14.02 time and the long jump with a 18-11 mark.
Ashley Ridge’s Imagine Patterson placed seventh in the 400 with a 59.81 time.
Summerville’s 4x800 relay team of Abigail Butler, Maria Edwards, Anya Bunao and Abby Bozarth placed seventh with a 10:11.58 time.
