Patriot forward Alihan Ozsoylu scored three goals Tuesday to lead Fort Dorchester to a 7-1 win over Carolina Forest in the opening round of the Class AAAA boys’ soccer playoffs.
Fort Dorchester scored in the first five minutes and added a goal in the next five to set the tone. The Patriots entered the half ahead 4-0 and then cruised into the second round of the playoffs.
“We didn’t have a player on the field to disappoint tonight,” Fort Dorchester coach Chris Jones said. “We put our stamp on this game.”
Jack Stasek, Zikeem Smith, Trevour Johnson and Clay Mahlie also scored for the Patriots as keepers Dos Santos and Christian Baker held the Panthers to a sole goal. The Fort improved to 13-5 on the season while Carolina Forest was eliminated with a 9-9 record.
The Patriots faced Aiken Thursday in a second-round game played after press time. If the Fort won, it will host the winner of Thursday’s Wando/Dutch Fork game in the third round Saturday.
The Fort scheduled a pair of games against strong opponents at the end of the regular season this year in an effort to get prepared for the playoffs. Jones says that move paid off.
“I was worried because we didn’t get the game in with Academic Magnet but I think playing Bishop England definitely helped us refocus our goals and priorities,” Jones said. “I’m proud of the way our team came out tonight focused and not over confident and I think BE being such a good test for us had something to do with that.”
