The Green Wave football team will have its Spring Game at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Summerville High School track.
The event is open to the public at no charge and gives football fans a quick glance into what the Green Wave may look like this fall. Members of the team will be divided into two squads that will go head-to-head during a four-quarter scrimmage. Quarters will be 10 minutes long.
Summerville opened its spring football practice earlier this month and, pending any rainouts, will conclude its allotted 10 days of practice with its Spring Game.
“I feel like we are getting a lot done,” Summerville coach John McKissick said. “This time of year we focus mostly on finding some depth and teaching the kids.”
The Wave has a lot of its skills players back including quarterback Sawyer Bridges and feature running back Davon Anderson, though up until Saturday Anderson was still competing with the Summerville track and field team.
The team also has some highly touted linemen back on the offensive side of the ball.
Defensively the team returns standouts such as defensive back Darin Smalls and linebacker Mac McCurry but will lose several starters on the defensive line and from the linebacker corps to graduation.
The Spring Game may give an indication of who will fill their shoes.
