Memorial Day Ceremony
 Monday, May 27 • 10 a.m.
The Summerville Elks Lodge will host a Memorial Day Ceremony with this year’s guest speaker Summerville Mayor Bill Collins. The ceremony will start sharply at 10:30 a.m., so please try and be there around 10 a.m.

Sertoma cheer training scheduled
The Azalea Sertoma Club of Summerville, sponsor of the Azalea Sertoma Recreational Cheerleading program, is hosting its 2nd Annual Basic Cheer Training from 6 -7:30 p.m. on June 18 and 20, and July 16 and 18 at Doty Park (320 N. Laurel St.) in Summerville.  This event is free and open to children of all ages. They are also registering, now through July 27, for the 2013 Cheer Season, and offering fundraising options to offset the registration and uniform costs.

Futsal Tryouts

Chargers Football
The Carolina Chargers semi-pro football organization will have tryouts from 9 a.m. until noon and from 3-6 p.m. June 8 and June 15 at the Gahagan Park football field in Summerville. The organization is affiliated with the GDFL and will begin having games in May of 2014.
Dunlap Football Camp
Former Fort Dorchester High School standout and current Cincinnati Bengal Carlos Dunlap will host the second annual Carlos Dunlap Football Camp from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. June 1 at FDHS. The camp, for kids age 6-13, will focus on the fundamentals of football as well as skills needed to succeed in life. Dunlap and other NFL personalities will serve as instructors. Registration is scheduled for May 31. The registration fee for the camp is $20 and includes a T-shirt and lunch for campers. AR Soccer Camp
Ashley Ridge High School will host its annual soccer camp for athletes age 3-12 June 17-21 and July 8-12. Camp tuition is $60 per session. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. The purpose of the camp is to provide a place for all players to learn the basics of soccer. Players of all ability levels are welcome. ARHS Head Girl’s Soccer Coach Mark Weaver and SHS Head Boy’s Soccer Coach Jason Rasner will head a staff that is committed to helping each camper improve their skills and performance levels. Elite Soccer Camp
For the second summer, Ashley Ridge High School is holding an Elite Soccer Camp. This addition to ARHS soccer camp is for those players who are ready to be challenged with a more difficult regiment of activities that will enhance their dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Junior golf camp
The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is having registration for its summer junior golf camps for ages 8-14. Led by Perry Green, PGA Director of Instruction and 2010 Carolinas PGA Junior Golf Leader, these camps will provide youth the opportunity to play and receive tips on Tee shots, Approach shots, Sand shots, Putting, rules and etiquette. Morning session will be offered June 17-20 and July 15-18. Registration fee is $195 per week with a discount available for a second session and families registering more than one camper. Girls of Golf program
The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is having registration for its LPGA/USGA Girls Golf of Charleston program. Led by Perry Green, PGA Director of Instruction and 2010 Carolinas PGA Junior Golf Leader, the program offers girls age 7-17 golf instruction, lunch, team golf events and prizes. Each participant receives an LPGA embroidered hat and polo shirt. Sessions are scheduled for June 3-7 and July 8-12. Times vary depending on age group. Wave hoops camp
The All American Basketball Skills Camp for boys and girls in grades 3 through 9is scheduled for June 10-13. Camp will be held from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Registration cost is $70 per camper with a half-price discount available for families with more than one child. Lady Wave hoops camp
The annual Lady Wave Basketball Camp sponsored by Greenwave Self Storage will be held June 3-5 at the Summerville High School gym. All rising fifth-graders through ninth-graders are welcome to attend the camp, which will run from 9 a.m. until noon daily. The goals of the camp are to build basketball skills and fundamentals, promote competitive play and sportsmanship, and provide fun for campers.  Registration is $40. Anyone who pre-registers by May 22 will receive a camp tee shirt.  For more information, contact Matt Legare at 870-7052 or visit the SHS website.
Swishing at The Swamp
Ashley Ridge High School will host the Swishing at The Swamp Basketball Camp June 17-20. Camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon daily. The purpose of the camp for boys age 6-16 is to provide the foundation for young players to develop and improve. The camp is designed for players of all ability levels and will be held in the ARHS gym. Cost is $70 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt. Pinewood tennis camps
Pinewood Tennis Director Bryant McKee and his staff will host four summer tennis camps for ages 6-13 that will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday each week in June.  Camp activities will include games and drills that will work on specific skills. Match play, team tournaments and video analysis will also be offered. Only 15 players will be accepted in each camp session to keep the player to coach ratio low. Players will be grouped according to age and skill level.  Quick start format and balls will be used for younger players. Cost is $125 per camp session and will include refreshments, prizes and a camp shirt. A $10 discount is available for campers enrolling in more than one session and for families with multiple campers. Tennis racquets will be made available if needed. Cobra wrestling clinic
The Cane Bay High School wrestling clinic will be held daily June 11-13 in the school’s gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is $25 and open to all wrestlers from elementary school to high school. Camp instructors will be Cane Bay wrestling coach Tim Wash, a former state coach of the year and 14-time region coach of the year, and Cane Bay assistant coach Andrew Young, a three-time state champion for Summerville High School and All-American for Newberry College.
