Cook named Green Wave MVP

  • Thursday, May 23, 2013

Roger Lee/Journal Scene Brandon Cook was named the MVP for the Green Wave boys’ soccer team Monday.

A senior received one of the most prestigious honors during the Green Wave Boys’ Soccer Banquet held Monday.
Brandon Cook, one of only three seniors on this year’s Summerville High School team, was named the Green Wave Most Valuable Player.
“Brandon really controlled the flow of play for our team,” Summerville coach Jason Rasner said. “There was a significant difference in the team play when we skipped the midfield and when the possession went through the middle of the field. We played our best when he touched the ball the most.”
Cook is also one of three members of the team to receive All-region honors for the 2013 season. Juniors Ryan West and Madison Socha were also named to the Region 8-AAAA All-region team.
West also received the Green Wave Golden Boot Award presented each year to the player who scores the most goals.
Senior Austin Lake received the Green Wave Award.
The Green Wave finished this season with a 9-9-1 record after being eliminated in the first round of the state playoffs with a loss to Stratford. Cook, Lake and Bailey Shelbourne will graduate Saturday but the Wave should have 12 players return next season, including starting goalkeeper Ashton Tanner.
Junior Varsity coach Chris Scott presented two awards during the banquet. Tom Holt was named the JV MVP and Adam Curry received the JV Green Wave Award.
