Maddie Rogers, parenting and family literacy coordinator, at Windsor Hill Elementary School, has received the South Carolina PTA organization’s highest honor of Teacher of the Year, announced Pat Raynor, Dorchester District Two public information officer as she introduced her to the district school board Monday.
The nomination of Rogers states “Ms. Rogers helps to find our PTA volunteers. She is many families’ very first introduction to our school. Her relationship with these families establishes a lasting respect for education and our school.
“She holds a “Preschool Club” for all 2-3 year old siblings of students at our school.  Many PTA Parent Volunteers are eager and happy to help Ms. Maddy, their trusted advocate, to prepare materials for “Preschool Club” each month.
“Maddy Rogers has served on the PTA board at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary for over 20 years. She began as a parent volunteer and substitute teacher, went back to teaching part-time, and has been a full time teacher here for twelve years, still remaining as a board member. Most recently Ms. Rogers has served as our Bylaws chair and Parliamentarian.
“She volunteers at all of our evening events; membership dance, hot dog hoe-down, and helps out at our monthly PTA meetings. She can be seen serving food, selling spirit items, taking memberships, or just setting up or cleaning up. She helps to organize our annual community fair having made great connections with community helpers throughout all her years on the board.
“As an advocate for Windsor Hill students and their families Ms. Rogers’s first priority is our students. She is “out and about” in the neighborhoods of our students, and is a “first responder” when a family has experienced financial reversals, a fire, a death, or a birth. Ms. Rogers has organized collections of household items and linens for fire victims, and alerted colleagues to assist families in need with utility bills.
“Ms. Rogers continually utilizes her role on the PTA Board to educate and build relationships, and supports her fellow teachers as we serve these families, and this community, Windsor Hill.”
The board applauded Rogers dedication and well-earned award.
