On Tuesday, April 16, my youngest sister was tragically killed when a train ran over her on the railroad tracks in Summerville. Without confirming the truth or untruth of the statement you printed it was an "alleged suicide". This investigation is still pending to my knowledge and we may never know what really happened.
I am writing this to remind you of the power of the printed word, especially in a widely circulated newspaper, and that probably everyone who read that article thinks that my sister was a crazy woman with no will to live. The truth is that she was having problems but she was getting help.
Joyce Lillian Brook "Joy" is one of eight children whose parents were missionaries for 40 years in Cameroon, W. Africa. She was a very loving, giving and sweet sister and she was happiest when she was helping others. That is the picture that I want strangers to have of my soul sister who is happy now without the struggles of life.
(Editor’s Note: The office source for the above referenced story was Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet who ruled the death a suicide.)
