A.J. Green to host skills camp in Summerville
Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver A.J. Green will return to his hometown this week to host his inaugural annual Skills Camp for high school-aged football players.
The one-day camp will take place Saturday at Summerville's Memorial Stadium and will teach players game, character and professional football career-building skills.
“I am excited to be able to come home and give back to the community that helped me to become the person that I am today,” Green, a 2007 Summerville High School Graduate, said. “It's a blessing and I hope to continue this tradition every year.”
For one seven-hour day, Green, along with a crew of handpicked NFL players and volunteers, will guide campers though games, drills, and skills contests focused on football fundamentals. Various experts will also be in attendance to provide participants with advice on matters such as basic budgeting, health and fitness awareness and character building.
“We are excited that A.J. is hosting the camp here,” Summerville High School coach John McKissick said. “It's my understanding that in addition to drills they are going to have some 7-on-7 scrimmages.”
The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on McKissick Field.
Designed for high school football players age 14-18, the camp is by invite only. To register, visit ajgreensports.com. To see a promo video for the camp, visit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcOv99Zm9Q4).
