Pinewood Sports Camp
Pinewood Prep will host Sports Camp for boys and girls age 6-13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 8-12. The cost is $150. Camp will consist of 1.5 hours of tennis instruction, 1.5 hours of soccer instruction, one hour of indoor games and one hour of recreational swimming with a qualified lifeguard present. Coach Bryant McKee, coach Gail Osborne and members of the Pinewood varsity tennis and soccer teams will serve as camp instructors. Chris Jones Soccer Camp
The Summerville Soccer Club will host the Chris Jones Advanced Soccer Camp from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. July 15-19. Designed for players age 8-12 , the camp offers an opportunity to learn and enjoy the many aspects of the game in a fun and competitive environment. Quality instruction based on the four pillars of soccer (technical, tactical, physical and mental) will be provided. Cost is $125 per player and includes a camp T-shirt, daily lunch and snacks and workshops hosted by guest instructors. Registration is limited to 40 players. Summerville Wrestling Camp
The Summerville Wrestling Camp is scheduled for June 25, 26 and 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Summerville High School. The clinician this year is Tucker Lane from the University of Nebraska, who is a current assistant coach at The Citadel. He has 105 collegiate wins, placed seventh at the Big Ten Tournament and is a four-time NCAA qualifier. Lane is also a three-time high school State Champion. Cost of the camp is $75 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt. If a family has two kids attend, the cost is $50 for the second camper. The Carolina Chargers semi-pro football organization will have tryouts from 9 a.m. until noon and from 3-6 p.m. June 15 at the Gahagan Park football field in Summerville. The organization is affiliated with the GDFL and will begin having games in May of 2014.
Swishing at The Swamp
Ashley Ridge High School will host the Swishing at The Swamp Basketball Camp June 17-20. Camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon daily. The purpose of the camp for boys age 6-16 is to provide the foundation for young players to develop and improve. The camp is designed for players of all ability levels and will be held in the ARHS gym. Cost is $70 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt. Doty Courts Tennis
The Town of Summerville is offering all sorts of tennis camps, leagues, lessons and clinics this summer. Camps for beginning, intermediate and advanced players age 5 and up are scheduled for June 24-27, July 8-11, July 15-18, July 22-25 and Aug 5-8. The fee is $115 per camper per week and a $50 deposit is required. Camp times are from 8 a.m. until noon and lunches are provided. The Town is also offering a Mixed Doubles League, Private Sessions and Assessment, Group Sessions, Adult Clinics (2.5-3.5), Beginner Junior Clinics, Junior Tennis Camp and Cardio Tennis. AR Volleyball Camp
Ashley Ridge High School is hosting a volleyball camp for athletes in grades 4 through 12. Registration for the camp, to be held from 9 a.m. until noon July 22-25, is $65 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt. Players will learn a variety of skills such as serving, passing, bumping, spiking and setting and play actual games. AR Soccer Camp
Ashley Ridge High School will host its annual soccer camp for athletes age 3-12 June 17-21 and July 8-12. Camp tuition is $60 per session. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. The purpose of the camp is to provide a place for all players to learn the basics of soccer. Players of all ability levels are welcome. ARHS Head Girl’s Soccer Coach Mark Weaver and SHS Head Boy’s Soccer Coach Jason Rasner will head a staff that is committed to helping each camper improve their skills and performance levels. Elite Soccer Camp
For the second summer, Ashley Ridge High School is holding an Elite Soccer Camp. This addition to ARHS soccer camp is for those players who are ready to be challenged with a more difficult regiment of activities that will enhance their dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Junior golf camp
The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is having registration for its summer junior golf camps for ages 8-14. Led by Perry Green, PGA Director of Instruction and 2010 Carolinas PGA Junior Golf Leader, these camps will provide youth the opportunity to play and receive tips on Tee shots, Approach shots, Sand shots, Putting, rules and etiquette. Morning session will be offered June 17-20 and July 15-18. Registration fee is $195 per week with a discount available for a second session and families registering more than one camper. Girls of Golf program
The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is having registration for its LPGA/USGA Girls Golf of Charleston program. Led by Perry Green, PGA Director of Instruction and 2010 Carolinas PGA Junior Golf Leader, the program offers girls age 7-17 golf instruction, lunch, team golf events and prizes. Each participant receives an LPGA embroidered hat and polo shirt. Sessions are scheduled for July 8-12. Times vary depending on age group. Cost is $100 for one week or $145 for two weeks. MEDcare Urgent Care has launched its 2013 Sports Physical Challenge, which will run through Aug. 31. Both MEDcare locations (8720 Dorchester Road, North Charleston and 1850 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, Charleston) will offer students a sports physical for only $20 and $5 will be donated back to each school per sports physical to participating schools as designated by the student or parent. The school with the most sports physicals performed at MEDcare during this promotional period will receive an additional $500 donation. Both clinics are open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Pinewood tennis camps
Pinewood Tennis Director Bryant McKee and his staff will host four summer tennis camps for ages 6-13 that will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday each week in June. Camp activities will include games and drills that will work on specific skills. Match play, team tournaments and video analysis will also be offered. Only 15 players will be accepted in each camp session to keep the player to coach ratio low. Players will be grouped according to age and skill level. Quick start format and balls will be used for younger players. Cost is $125 per camp session and will include refreshments, prizes and a camp shirt. A $10 discount is available for campers enrolling in more than one session and for families with multiple campers. Tennis racquets will be made available if needed.
