It’s a PAW-TY – Fundraiser to benefit the SPCA

Provided All the shops on Central are banning together to support the SPCA. Bane is only one of the animals that will be helped by the fundraiser.

Puppies, kitties, cake, and balloons – it must be a PAW-TY!
The merchants on “Short” Central Avenue in Historic Downtown Summerville are partnering with Francis R. Willis SPCA of Dorchester County to celebrate The Eclectic Chef’s ninth anniversary Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will give residents the opportunity to learn how they can support the SPCA and our furry friends through adoption, fostering, volunteering, and donations to the SPCA. Representatives from the SPCA will be set up on Short Central from noon to 3pm.
The Eclectic Chef, a favorite downtown eatery, has a tradition of using their celebrations to benefit the SPCA. Eclectic Chef owner, Ben McCollum, for years has served up his birthday cake at $3 a slice and donated all the proceeds to the SPCA. McCollum’s “Dine with Your Dog” event in the fall is another way Ben supports the stray, abandoned, abused or lost pets in our community.
“This year, the whole street is getting into the party spirit and supporting the SPCA,” says McCollum. “We are really excited to be doing this as a family here on Short Central. We are the community, and what is important to community is important to us.”
In addition to birthday cake, shops up and down the street will be offering discounts or donating a portion of the day’s sales to the SPCA.
Downtown Crossing, a Short Central boutique, will be a collection site for material donations. Some of the items the SPCA needs on a regular basis include:  food (canned and dry - puppy, kitten, dog and cat – please no red dye in dry food), laundry detergent, cat litter, towels/blankets (new or used/clean), leashes, and collars. You may drop off material donations to Downtown Crossing from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29.
