Belmont Stakes winner hits home
When W. Cothran “Cot” Campbell’s horse Palace Malice won The Belmont Stakes June 8, it got the attention of one Summerville family, the Cothran’s. Sam and Cecile Cothran are family.
“We are thrilled and excited for Anne and Cot Campbell. They are distant cousins to my husband and the loveliest people…we can’t imagine anyone we would be more pleased with having this great success.” Mrs. Cothran said this week.
She said that horses and racing have been a love of Cot’s since he was exposed to it by his grandfather.
This is not the first big win for Campbell, according to Cothran, with his horse Summer Squall winning The Preakness in 1990.
“There has been some talk recently about Cot retiring…this would be a wonderful send off for him,” Mrs. Cothran said.
