Ryan West, a 2013 graduate of Ashley Ridge High School, was awarded the Len Miret Memorial Scholarship, worth $3,000. Ryan will be attending Clemson University in the Fall, majoring in Engineering.
The Len Miret Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2008, in memory of Len Miret. Len was a beloved youth soccer coach and athlete. Len played Division I soccer at the University of South Florida, and semi-professional soccer after college. He went on to coach recreational and varsity high school soccer for many years before being diagnosed with cancer. He passed away in 2006, after a five-year battle. He was 38 years old. Miret is survived by his wife and three children, who are current residents of Summerville.
Scholarship criteria include, demonstrated financial need, two-years of participation in a varsity sport, academic excellence, community service and acceptance at a four-year college or a two-year community college.
