Spill closes road

  • Thursday, June 27, 2013

Orangeburg Road from Central Avenue to Devon Road was shut down Tuesday from about 1 p.m. to around 6:30 p.m. according to published reports.
Old Fort Fire Department and HEPACO responded to a spill of restaurant cooking oil/grease that originated behind the Piggly Wiggly.
According to reports, a truck carrying cooking oil from restaurants was pumping grease from storage tanks behind the shopping center when the spill happened.
Using sand to absorb the oil, the fire department and HEPACO cleaned the area. No one was hurt and no accidents resulted from the spill.
