Parks Field American and Carolina League all-star teams opened the 2013 AAA Minors (Age 9-10) District 7 Sub District A Tournament Wednesday with a win.
The tournament is scheduled to run through this weekend at the Carolina League/Alston Middle School fields. Admission is $5.
Action began with a game between Moncks Corner and Parks Field American. Moncks Corner jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Parks rallied to earn a 6-5 win.
In the top of the fifth inning, Walker Richardson doubled to drive in two runs and tie the game at 4. Parks took the lead off a single by Heston Foster that plated Richardson. Kade Kuskey then doubled top drive in Foster for a 6-4 Parks’ advantage entering the bottom of the frame.
Moncks Corner’s Sean Ward reached base on a fielder’s choice and cut the lead to a run with some aggressive base running, stealing second and coming home on a pair of throwing errors.
However, Parks starter Dalton Godin closed the game out by getting the first batter in the bottom half of final inning to ground out and then striking out the next two batters.
The Carolina League team opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Bonneau.
Carolina loaded the bases in the bottom of the third off an error, a bunt single by Demani Green and a walk. Another base on balls then pushed Alex Hagood across and Terrance Geddis singled to drive in Green for the 2-0 margin.
Twan Moses went the distance on the mound to pick up the pitching win.
The winner of the tournament as well as the runner-up will advance to the District 7 championship tournament scheduled for July 8-13 at Pepperhill. The district tournament will also feature the winner and runner-up of the Sub District B tournament being held June 27-29 at Park Circle. Teams at that site vying for the berths to the District 7 tournament include Parks Field National, Ladson Youth, Park Circle and Hanahan.
