The high school football season is still several weeks away but schedules for teams are available to fans who may want to start marking dates on their calendar.
Schedules for public schools in the state are posted on the South Carolina High School League website: www.schsl.org. To locate schedules for teams you follow scroll down to the bottom of the homepage to find the Football Schedules section. Schedules are organized alphabetically so simply click on the icon for the group that includes the school you are looking for.
Practice for public high school teams opens Aug. 2. Most teams play their first game on Aug. 30 but there are some exceptions.
Summerville opens its season with a Thursday night game Aug. 29 when it will host Cane Bay. Last season the Cobras stunned the Green Wave by opening play for their first season as a Class AAAA team with a 10–3 victory over Summerville so the Green Wave will have revenge on its mind.
Summerville will also face Berkeley County teams the next two weeks. On Sept. 6 the Wave will make the trip to Moncks Corner to take on one of its oldest foes, Berkeley High School. On Sept. 13 the Wave will host a team that has had its number the last couple of years, Goose Creek.
Fort Dorchester opens its 2013 campaign by hosting Carolina Forest Aug. 30. The Patriots will then travel to Cane Bay Sept. 6 and host Stratford Sept. 13.
Ashley Ridge opens its season by hosting Goose Creek Aug. 30. Last year the tone for both teams was set when the Gators trounced the Swamp Foxes 48-16 so Ashley Ridge should have no problem getting motivated for the rematch. Ashley Ridge will then face a couple of Charleston County teams, traveling to Wando Sept. 6 and hosting West Ashley Sept. 13.
Fans who love rivalry games may want to clear their schedule for the evening of Oct. 11. That is the evening Fort Dorchester and Summerville will open Region 8-AAAA play against each other. This series has brought some epic battles over the years and there is no reason to expect less this year.
Ashley Ridge will have to wait until the end of the season to get a shot at its two cross-town, interdistrict rivals. The Swamp Foxes will travel to Summerville Nov. 1 and then close the regular season by hosting Fort Dorchester Nov. 8. The Swamp Foxes got the best of the Patriots in last year's regular-season finale so Fort Dorchester will be looking to turn the tables this year.
Ashley Ridge opens region play Oct. 11 when it hosts Colleton County.
Some schools open their football season Aug. 23 during what many refer to as Week Zero.
