On June 15th, Summerville Elks Lodge #2719 held its annual Flag Day Ceremony.  Flags were presented by the Summerville Police Cadets and a brief history was given of each flag. Lodge member and Summerville Police Officer James Bateman and his wife, Denise, have been instrumental in getting this event organized for the past several years. During the presentation of flags, all veterans in attendance were honored with a standing ovation.  Also in attendance were Alleine Simmons, Founder and President of Nulife Housing for Homeless Heroes, Inc. and several of her clients.  Directly after the ceremony, Exalted Ruler Tim Polzin presented a $1,000 check to Ms. Simmons for her foundation, Nulife Housing for Homeless Heroes. This money was made available through the Summerville Elk's Lodge Beacon Grant offered by the Elks National Foundation. This grant offers the local lodge an opportunity to develop a new, ongoing, charitable Elks driven community project.
