Beginning in September, Trident Technical College will offer an online Medical Scribe program through its Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development.
This 12-month program – approved by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM) – will prepare students for a career as a medical scribe, or clinical information manager. The primary function of a scribe is creating and maintaining patients’ electronic medical records, which are created under the supervision of the attending physician.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the medical scribe profession is growing faster than the average for all health occupations and is expected to increase by 21 percent, with a wage scale ranging from $12 to $20 per hour. In South Carolina, the wage is reported at $15.60 per hour.
TTC’s Medical Scribe Program is set around medical scenarios, case management, disease processes, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding and other biological processes. There are 13 courses in the Medical Scribe program that will run from September16 to September 30, 2014. Tuition per course ranges from $59 to $338.
Upon successful completion of the Medical Scribe Program, students will be eligible to sit for the ACCIM exam for the Clinical Information Manager Certification and Aptitude Test (CIMCAT).
