Junior Varsity football teams from across the Lowcountry will kick off their 2013 season Aug. 24 with the fourth annual Swamp Fox JV Jamboree.
This year 12 JV teams representing eight schools will participate in the jamboree, scheduled from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Ashley Ridge High School football stadium. Admission is $5 and children 10 and younger will be admitted for no charge.
Summerville-area teams Ashley Ridge, Cane Bay, Fort Dorchester and Summerville will all field two teams for the event. Also competing will be teams representing Berkeley, Bishop England, Colleton County and West Ashley.
The teams will pair off for a total of six, two-quarter scrimmages. There will be no live kicks or punts but other than that teams will follow standard JV game rules. Each team will have three timouts per scrimmage and first possession will be determined by a coin toss.
Most of the JV teams in the area will open their regular-season schedule the following week.
Ashley Ridge will open its JV season at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at Goose Creek. The Swamp Foxes will close their season with back-to-back rivalry games against Summerville Oct. 31 and at Fort Dorchester Nov. 7.
The Fort Dorchester JV will open its season at Carolina Forest Aug. 29. In addition to the rivalry game at the end of the season, the Patriots will travel to Summerville Oct. 11.
