After meeting with legislators to enlist support, Dorchester District Two composed a formal letter to be sent to Fred Lynn, chairman, South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs requesting consideration of the sale of state land to the district for the construction of a new school.
The letter reads, in part:
“We are interested in purchasing parcels of the Coastal Center campus that are contiguous with land that we currently own.  We believe that the land, in aggregate, could help us meet our future needs if we were also granted permission to construct an access road from the main causeway.    If granted a permanent road easement, to include a roundabout, it would be for exclusive use of Dorchester School District Two.  In addition, all costs of the access road and roundabout would be paid by Dorchester School District Two.”
The board voted to approve the letter which will be sent as will supporting letters from Representatives Jenny Horne, Chris Murphy and Senator Sean Bennett.
