Shirley Ann (Colbert) Dent, 83, of Summerville, widow of George Herndon Dent, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Trident Medical Center. 
Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock PM.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11 o’clock AM at Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville.  Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 118 West 3rd Street, Summerville, SC 29483 or Second Chance, 115 East 4th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
Shirley was born on November 19, 1929 in Gretna, VA, daughter of the late Russell Colbert and Frances Hines Colbert.  She graduated from James Madison University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music.  She taught music and elementary education.  Shirley was an avid golfer and volunteered for Second Chance.  She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she was an active member in the music ministry, especially the Chancel Choir. She served as treasurer of the Brooks-Swicegood circle. She was an active member of George Miler Country Club Women’s Golf Group.
Surviving are:  Three Children:  Laughlin Smith (Joe) of Knoxville, TN, Tommy Dent (Betty Jo) of Fayetteville, NC and Kathryn Flanagan (Shawn) of Summerville; Seven Grandchildren:  Russell (Rachel), Edward (Lauren), Michael, Jonathan (Ruthie), Leslie, Laughlin and Patrick; Two Great Grandchildren:  Josie and Joanna; Two Sister In Laws:  Lois Poindexter of Summerville and Avis Colbert of Pennsylvania; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.  She was predeceased by her brother, Russell David Colbert.
