Patients who used the MUSC Physicians online portal or paid MUSCHealth by credit card were affected. Affected patients will receive a prerecorded phone message about the theft. They can also call a MUSC-based call center to confirm if they were a victim. The number for the call center is 843-792-6200 or 1-800-868-5051.
MUSC is providing individuals whose information was compromised in the intrusion with free enrollment in a credit protection, monitoring and restoration service program through Experian. If you are identified as an individual whose information was compromised, the cost of an initial one year membership/enrollment fee will be paid for the victims. Protection will be provided for one year at no charge. Details on enrollment will come in the mail with a formal notification letter.
In the meantime, says MUSC, victims can safeguard their information by calling their credit card provider and alerting them to the possibility of compromise.
A further warning, says MUSC, never give personal information to anyone claiming to be contacting you regarding this intrusion. MUSC will not initiate phone calls asking for personal information. However, if you call MUSC directly for more information, you will be asked to verify your identity.
