Summerville Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the individual who burglarized the Big Lots store on Dorchester Road Friday morning around 2 a.m.
Police determined that the suspect got into the store through the HVAC vent on the roof. Once in the store, the suspect cut a hole through the Sheetrock creating an 18- by 18-inch hole behind the door to the locked cash room. Once inside the cash room he pulled a filing cabinet away from the wall, knocked some papers off the safe and appeared to pull a black bag from behind the filing cabinet.
The store manager told police he had no knowledge of the black bag or what it contained. Further, he said, it did not appear that anything was taken from the store.
The suspect was wearing all black clothing – a hooded jacket and pants – and black gloves. He was also wearing a headband with a flashlight attached to it.
Although nothing appeared to be taken, the suspect did an estimated $5,000 worth of damage gaining access to the store.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Summerville Police Department at 851-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
