Officer Tiffany N. Britton, of the Folly Beach Police Department, telephoned the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office September 8, to report that her duty belt, including her department-issued weapon, had been stolen from her bedroom.
Britton lives on Judith Drive in Greenhurst, Summerville. She told the deputy that she allowed a homeless man – who was a long-time friend from childhood – to stay at her residence and that he had stolen the belt and weapon.
She said she noticed it was missing when she went to clean her weapon.
On the duty belt were handcuffs, pepper spray, an asp, a box of ammunition and a black Glock 40 caliber gun.
The mother of the homeless man, found the duty belt, minus the weapon and ammunition, on a pile of his clothes at an address on Frankie Lane in Ladson. She reported this to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the incident report there is no further investigation.
