Town Council authorized Mayor Bill Collins to name the week of Sept. 15 – 21 “Child Passenger Safety Week” and Sept. 21 “National Seat Check Saturday” at their meeting Wednesday.
The police department will host several road checks around town in accordance with the week.
Summerville Police Chief Bruce Owens said officers may give out tickets at their discretion if they find drivers violating child passenger safety laws during the checks.
According to the police department, the bond amount on such a ticket is $232.50.
