Teen charged in fatal crash

Cullen Depree, 17, of Summerville has been charged with Reckless Homicide and Leaving the Scene of an Accident in connection with the fatal crash on 17A August 24 that took the life of 21-year-old Amanda Carey, daughter of Tim and Monica Carey of Summerville.
On August 24, around 11:40 p.m., a 2000 Jeep, driven by 21-year-old Taylor Watkins, attempted to pass a 1998 Mercury. The vehicles were heading north on U.S. 17A near SC 61 and made contact, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins.
The Jeep rolled over ending up overturned in a 20-foot ditch that had about five feet of water in it, according to Assistant Fire Chief William Sullivan of Old Fort Fire Department. Watkins was transported by helicopter to MUSC.
According to Collins, Watkins was charged with DUI.
