Larry Jackson of Summerville was last seen April 27 in the Brownsville area. His skeletal remains were found August 17, by hunters, in a wooded area of Utsey Hill Road in Grover.
According to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet, the 24-year-old father was reported missing on April 29 by his girlfriend Deanna Dweck and his sister, Tyenesha Bell, to the Summerville Police Department.
Nisbet says he was able to identify the remains with dental records and an anthropology examination.
Nisbet says the cause of death was a single gunshot to the head. Nisbet has determined the death to be homicide.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
On August 17, a man, who had been looking for his hunting dogs, met up with a hunter who told him he had found a human skull in the woods.
The man and another hunter went into the woods, located the skull and contacted the St. George Police. The St. George police told them to call the Sheriff’s Office because it was in their jurisdiction.
The DCSO Crime Scene Unit responded, as did detectives and the coroner. At the location of the skull, they discovered other bones. The Crime Scene Unit responded.
