The Ashley Ridge volleyball team swept a tri-match with Summerville and Goose Creek Thursday.
“The girls played well against Summerville and Goose Creek,” Ashley Ridge coach Chi-Chi Hurley said. “Sabrina Spencer did a great job with her tips that allowed us to score at important times. Abi Dunlap and Whitley Lewis had some nice kills and our middle blocks were key to shutting down the other teams’ attacks.”
Brenna Swartz, Chynna Hunt, Katie Jordan and Kaitlyn Sullivan were also key to the victories.
Ashley Ridge won its first game with Summerville 25-18, but Summerville went down fighting as the Swamp Foxes squeezed out a 28-26 win in the second game.
“We came from behind in the second game, which is something I want the girls to realize they are capable of doing,” Hurley said. “Our serves almost cost us that game. We need to be able to put the serves in play at critical times.”
Ashley Ridge then defeated Goose Creek 25-6, 25-22 to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Swamp Foxes entered play this week with a 2-1 mark in region play. Their region loss is to Fort Dorchester.
In the final match of the evening, Goose Creek beat Summerville 26-24, 25-12. The Gators had seven service aces in the match and were strong at the net both offensively and defensively.
Zuri Green, Danielle Halajcsik and Mackenzie Schmoltz led the Green Wave scorers in the tri-match.
Up next for the Swamp Foxes is a match at Bluffton Thursday and Ashley Ridge’s Pink Out match Oct. 1. The Foxes will host Cane Bay and Summerville for that match, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Summerville hosts Fort Dorchester and Stratford at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
