The Pinewood Girls Cross Country team took home a third-place trophy from the Lake Murray Invitational on Saturday.
This was another big invitational with 37 teams attending and 30 of those with full scoring teams.
Eighth-grader Maryah Nasir was the Varsity Girls Champion, finishing with a personal best 18:34.28 time to set a new school record.
“Maryah helped lead the varsity girls’ team to a strong finish,” Pinewood coach Kelly Hazel said, “Pinewood beat big schools from around the state again. It’s great that we have several girls that can rise up to the occasion and run well when we need them to do so.”
Katie Black was the second Pinewood runner across the finish line. She placed 22nd with a season-best 19:56 time. Isabelle Greenstreet placed 29th with a 20:10 time (SB); Megan Kuhn placed 32nd with a 20:14 time (PR); and Sallie Limehouse rounded out the team’s top five, placing 62nd with a 21:26 time (PR).
Kasey Grossman ran a 21:29 for a season best and Seleste Franklin ran a 22:57.
In the Boys Varsity race, senior Mason Hazel set a new PR and school record of 16:43.7 to place 17th. He was followed by Jin Kim with a 17:47.2 time ( PR), Joseph Siegel with an 18:17 time (PR) and Jake Birdsong with a 19:22 time.
