The Fort Dorchester volleyball team picked up wins over Summerville and Stratford last week.
The Patriots defeated the Green Wave 25-14, 25-19 to improve to 17-1 on the season and 4-1 in Region 8-AAAA. Summerville put up a good fight, but Fort Dorchester was strong defensively and got its normal offensive production.
“We’ve been working on our defense, covering and making blocks,” Fort coach Tarshie Burrell said. “We’re making sure we position ourselves so when we dig or block we don’t just hit the ball out of bounds. My Libero, McKenzie Long, had a great game defensively.”
Senior Jasmine Quinn and junior Kira Ozegovich led the way at the net for the Fort, providing several blocks. Behind them, several players made some nice digs to fend off hot shots.
Quinn, Ozegovich, Amanda Gluck and Monica Mack led the offensive charge.
Prior to the Summerville match, the Patriots made short work of Stratford, defeating the Knights 25-11, 25-4. Quinn made seven kills in the match and scored with two serves. Senior Rachel Phillips, Gluck and Ozegovich also had a strong performance.
Entering the second half of region games, the Patriots are hoping to avenge a loss to Bluffton and claim a piece of the region crown. To earn a region championship outright, they will likely need another region foe to beat the Bobcats.
“We know what we have to do to and that is our goal,” Burrell said.
The Patriots travel to Cane Bay Thursday and host Ashley Ridge Oct. 8.
