Meals on Wheels thanks Legend Oaks

  • Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Dear Editor,
On behalf of Meals on Wheels of Summerville I would like to extend our gratitude to Legend Oaks. Last weekend the Legend Oaks Golf and Tennis Club sponsored their fifth annual Legend Oaks Gives Back weekend. This includes a tennis tournament, dinner and silent auction and a golf tournament. The managing partner Jim Chickarello and his wife Kathy wanted to give back to the community and put together a committee to pursue this challenge. They work tirelessly year round to make the weekend a success and their efforts have been rewarded each year. We were blessed this year with a perfect weekend weather wise and very generous participants.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Chickarellos, the Legend Oaks Committee and staff for putting on such a spectacular event. I also need to thank the very bighearted corporate sponsors, hole sponsors and all the local businesses and people that support LOGB. There are too many people and businesses involved to list them all but you know who you are and thank you very much for your contributions.
Meals on Wheels of Summerville feeds about 150 people a day, five days a week, approximately 40,000 meals per year. We operate with no tax dollars but only with what we can raise. Organizations like Legend Oaks go a long way to help people. Many of the people we serve are able to stay in their homes longer and out of facilities with our nutritious meals. The funds that were raised this past weekend will feed about 20 people for one year.
I thank you so very much for your caring and generosity. It is greatly appreciated.
Wayne R. Lodge
